SPOUSAL SUPPORT BASICS
The length of the marriage is one major determiner of the length of time one pays spousal support. If the marriage is less than 10 years, the marriage is considered "short-term" and often the Court will order spousal support be paid at 1/2 the length of the marriage. If the marriage is over 10 years, the Court may deem it a long-term marriage, and order that spousal support be paid until the payee re-marries, dies, or further-court order is made to terminate the support.
Spousal support is a very hotly-contested issues which requires counsel to look at many separate factors to determine a client's future with paying/receiving spousal support. Call Mr. Taub at (951) 276-0500 to discuss this and other Family Law issues.
